Moving Rougemont Depot

Saving Rougemont Train Depot required moving the Depot from Norfolk & Western Railroad property to Rougemont Village on the south side of Red Mountain Road where Rougemont Village owner Don Mason has provided a permanent site for the Depot.

Ten days preparation were needed to prepare the depot for the move.  First Norman Perry, Joe Haenn and John Mininger jacked the Depot off its foundation.

The Depot is rotated 90 degrees ready for th move.  Don Mason helps with his backhoe.

After ten days careful preparation, the move took only ten minutes.

Next pine logs  were cut and rolled under the Depot and a skid was built. Chain saws, farm tractors, trailers and 3/4 inch thick bolts were needed.

On Saturday 11/20/2010 Volunteers from the Rougemont community successfully moved the Rougemont Train Depot from Norfolk and Western property to Rougemont village where it will be restored.  Bill McFarland supplied the tractor power needed to pull the Depot to its new site.
